Behind the Lyrics: Jump Around by House of Pain
House of Pain was formed in Los Angeles, California in 1991 by rapper Everlast, DJ Lethal, and rapper Danny Boy. The group was initially formed as a live hip-hop act, and they quickly gained a reputation for their energetic performances.
They signed with Tommy Boy Records their self-titled debut album, House of Pain, was released in 1992 and featured the hit singles “Jump Around” and “Shamrocks and Shenanigans.” The album was a commercial success and sold over 2 million copies in the US. The album helped to popularize the subgenre of hip hop known as “hardcore rap” and its Irish-American themes.
“Jump Around” was the lead single from their self-titled debut album. The song was produced by DJ Muggs of Cypress Hill, and was a hit for the group, reaching number 3 on the Billboard Hot Rap Songs chart and number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States.

Everlast continued to perform as a solo artist and released several albums, including “Whitey Ford Sings the Blues” (1998) and “Eat at Whitey’s” (2000). DJ Lethal went on to become a member of Limp Bizkit and Danny Boy formed a new group called La Coka Nostra.
In 2010, House of Pain reunited for a tour, and they have occasionally performed together since then. “Jump Around” still remains one of the group’s most popular songs, and it continues to be a staple at parties, clubs, and events.
